Chapter 1: What is Islam?

Hello, Friends! I am Aisha, I am 9 years old. I have just entered the 4th grade in school. Can I write a book at this age? Yes and No!

I cannot write a book because I am too young and I have to learn a lot. But I can write a little book with somebody's help. Maybe you would like to try.

I chose to write about Islam. My dad and mom and my brothers write about Islam. But they write for grownups. I want to write for the little ones like you and me. I love Islam because it gives us the best rules to live by.

🌟 What is Islam?

Islam is a simple yet the best guide for us given by God. It means accepting God's rules. It also means peace.

If we live without any rules, everything will go wrong. A Muslim is a person who chooses to live by the rules of Islam. There are more than one billion Muslims in the world.

“Islam is the way of peace, the way of guidance, and the way of kindness.”

Chapter 2: The Guidance

THE QUR’AN is the last word of God to people. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ received this message between 610 and 632 CE — almost 1400 years ago.

The Qur’an is shorter than the Bible. It has 114 chapters and about 6,200 verses. It contains a small number of do’s and don’ts — laws that say:

  • If you do this, then that will happen.
  • If you don’t do this, then something else will happen.

Any person or nation can try these laws and see results. That’s why the Qur’an is a scientific book — it has no contradictions. God even says that all people together cannot make one chapter like it.

🌟 Central Ideas of the Qur’an

  • “As you sow, so shall you reap.” Do good, receive good. Do bad, face consequences. This is the law of returns.
  • Our bodies grow by taking food and drink. Our souls grow by giving — helping others.

The Qur’an explains the reasons behind its laws. It answers the “WHY” of every rule. It guides individuals, families, and nations. Its teachings never fail.

🧠 Basic Teachings of the Qur’an

  1. We can be guided only if we see, listen, and think.
  2. If we are too proud, we won’t be guided. We must be humble and open-minded.
  3. Blindly following others (like sheep) keeps us from learning. It’s better to say “I will think” than “Yes sir” all the time.

The main difference between humans and animals is our thinking mind.

“The Qur’an is not just a book — it’s a map, a light, and a friend for life.”

faith

🌟 Islam for the Junior

Chapter 3: The 5 Articles of Faith

God’s Book of instructions wants us to believe in five articles. This is not blind faith — we use our understanding to accept them.

  1. Belief in God: “La Ilaha Ill’Allah” — there is no one I will obey or worship but the one true God. This is called Tawheed, true monotheism.
  2. Belief in the Second Life: When we die, only our body dies. Our soul continues. Good deeds bring rewards in the next life — called Paradise. Bad deeds bring failure — called Hellfire.
  3. Belief in Angels: Angels are God’s workers. They obey Him perfectly. They may be like laws of nature — gravity, wind, light — always doing their job.
  4. Belief in the Book: God sent messages to prophets. These messages are called Books. Moses received the Torah, Jesus the Gospel, and Muhammad ﷺ the Qur’an — the final and perfect Book.
  5. Belief in Messengers: God sent prophets to every nation. They all taught the same message: “God is One.” They were role models with perfect character. The Qur’an names over 25 of them.

🧠 Why These Beliefs Matter

  • Without belief in God, everyone would make their own rules. There would be no peace.
  • Without belief in the second life, we’d think life is short and meaningless. But knowing our soul continues gives us hope and purpose.
  • Our soul grows by giving. Helping others makes us better people.
  • Believing in angels reminds us that the universe is organized and purposeful.
  • Having a Book of guidance is like having a map — it helps us live wisely and kindly.
  • Messengers were chosen by God to guide us. They lived by His rules and showed us how to live with justice and love.

“Faith is not just believing — it’s understanding, feeling, and living with purpose.”

pillars

🕌 Islam for the Junior

Chapter 4: The Pillars of Islam

There are five pillars of Islam. We must build a beautiful building on these pillars. These pillars help us grow in character and faith.

  1. Iman (Faith): “I declare from my heart that there is no god whom I obey except Allah, and Muhammad ﷺ is His messenger.”
  2. Salat (Prayer): Regularly remembering Allah, sharing His message, and helping the needy. Salat is prayer and more.
  3. Zakat (Charity): Keeping our wealth open for the needy. Giving helps our soul grow.
  4. Saum (Fasting): Training ourselves during Ramadan. We stay away from food, drink, anger, lying, and backbiting — learning self-control and discipline.
  5. Hajj (Pilgrimage): Visiting Makkah once in life, if we can afford it. It unites mankind and helps us think of ways to make the world better.

🏗️ Building on the Pillars

These pillars are not Islam by themselves. They are the foundation. We must build a beautiful building on them — a building of good character, kindness, and unity.

In this building, all people and all nations are one. These acts of worship help us become better people and create peace in the world.

“Islam is not just rituals — it’s a way to build a life of love, justice, and unity.”

why islam1

🌍 Islam for the Junior

Chapter 5: Why Islam?

All religions have do’s and don’ts. So why is Islam special?

  1. Islam solves all problems of humanity.
  2. Islam is not just a religion — it’s a way of life.
  3. Islam teaches mankind to live together in peace.
  4. Every rule in Islam makes sense and can be tested.

🤝 Equality in Islam

In Islam, all people are equal. It doesn’t matter if you’re:

  • Black or white
  • Rich or poor
  • From a king’s palace or a farmer’s hut

What matters is your character.

⚖️ Islam is the Way of Moderation

Imagine a rider with a horse:

  • One rider loves the horse too much and forgets the journey.
  • Another rider ignores the horse and sits under a tree.
  • The wise rider cares for the horse and keeps moving toward the goal — Paradise.

Our soul is the rider. Our body is the horse. Islam teaches us to use both wisely to help others and reach our goal.

📚 Knowing vs. Doing

Many Muslims know the Book but don’t understand it. Like reading about swimming but never jumping into the pool.

“I will never get into the pool until I learn how to swim.” — But how can you learn unless you try?

“Islam is not just about knowing — it’s about living with kindness, wisdom, and purpose.”

the prophet1

👑 Islam for the Junior

Chapter 6: The Ideal Prophet

We were talking about why we should choose Islam as our way of life. Another strong reason is the ideal prophet.

We know all about his life. His teachings still exist. He was the greatest man ever to live. Even non-Muslims agree with that.

🌟 His Life and Legacy

  • Born in Makkah in the year 570 CE
  • Called Ameen (trustworthy) and Saadiq (truthful) even before prophethood
  • Received the first verses of the Qur’an at age 40
  • Faced hardship, but never gave up
  • Moved to Madinah and built a peaceful society
  • Changed Arabia in just 23 years

He was the best father, husband, neighbor, and leader. He didn’t conquer land — he conquered hearts 🤍

🕊️ His Character

  • Never worshipped idols
  • Did not drink or gamble
  • Stayed away from gossip and vain talk
  • Helped the poor and stood for justice
  • Was kind to animals and respectful to all people

He lived by God’s rules and showed us how to live with peace and fairness.

“Some people think he conquered land. In fact, he conquered hearts.”

Chapter 7: Question Box

Let’s open our question box! These are questions that many children ask. Let’s explore them together.

❓ Why do we pray?

We pray to remember Allah, to thank Him, and to ask for help. Prayer is like talking to our best friend who always listens.

❓ Why do we fast?

Fasting teaches us self-control. It helps us feel what the poor feel and reminds us to be grateful.

❓ Why do we give charity?

Giving makes our soul grow. It helps others and brings peace to our hearts.

❓ Why do we believe in angels?

Angels are God’s helpers. They do good things and remind us that the world is full of unseen kindness.

❓ Why do we follow the Prophet ﷺ?

He showed us how to live with love, honesty, and courage. He was the best example for all people.

“Asking questions is the first step to understanding. Islam welcomes your curiosity.”

the goal1

🎯 Islam for the Junior

  • Its fruit is character

Islam helps us grow like this tree — strong, useful, and full of shade for others.

“The goal of Islam is not just to believe — it’s to become a light for the world.”

the ideal character

🧭 Islam for the Junior

Chapter 9: The Ideal Character

Islam wants us to become people of beautiful character. That means being kind, honest, brave, and fair — even when no one is watching.

  • Honesty: Telling the truth, even when it’s hard
  • Bravery: Standing up for what’s right
