The Blessed Companions

Profiles of the Noble Sahabah (رضي الله عنهم)

These are among the greatest men who ever walked the earth—the Sahabah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They sacrificed everything for Islam and were promised Paradise.
١

Zubair Ibn Al-Awwam (رضي الله عنه)

🕌 Accepted Islam at age 15 ⭐ One of the first 7 Muslims 👨‍👩‍👦 Related to the Prophet ﷺ

He was related to both the Prophet ﷺ and his wife, Khadijah. His best friend was Talhah Ibn Ubaidullah—they both accepted Islam on the same day, and they both died on the same day.

His wife was Asmah, the daughter of Abu Bakr and the sister of Aishah (wife of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ). His son, Abdullah Ibn Zubair, would later lead a revolt against the Umayyad Dynasty.

⚔️ He joined sides with Aishah against Ali ibn Abi Talib in the Battle of the Camel. Though he did not take part directly in the fighting, he was killed by one of Ali's soldiers.
٢

Abdur Rahman Ibn Awf (رضي الله عنه)

🕌 Accepted Islam through Abu Bakr 💰 One of the wealthiest Companions 🎂 Same age as the Prophet ﷺ

He was born during the Year of the Elephant and was the same age as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Despite being known as one of the wealthiest companions, he devoted much of his time to worshiping Allah and defending Islam.

He was among those chosen by Umar Ibn Al-Khattab to succeed as Caliph. However, Abdur Rahman recused himself and ultimately was the deciding factor in choosing Uthman over Ali.

🕊️ He died three years before the beginning of the Muslim civil wars—spared from having to choose sides.
٣

Sa'ad Ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه)

🕌 Accepted Islam at age 13 🏹 Excellent archer 🏛️ Governor of Persia

He accepted Islam at the age of 13 and was probably the third or fourth person to do so. His family, especially his mother, pressured him to leave Islam—however, he held fast to his faith. He fought alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in all of the major battles and was known to be an excellent archer.

During the Caliphate of Umar, he was the governor of Persia. Unlike Talhah and Zubair, Sa'ad Ibn Abi Waqqas did not choose sides during the civil war — he refused to take part at all.

📅 He died around eighty years of age during the Caliphate of Muawiyyah ibn Abi Sufyan.
٤

Sa'eed Ibn Zaid (رضي الله عنه)

🕌 Never worshipped idols 👨‍👩‍👦 Cousin of Umar Ibn Al-Khattab ⚔️ Wars of Apostasy veteran

His father, Zaid, belonged to a monotheistic sect of Arabs that existed before Islam—thus, Sa'eed Ibn Zaid never worshipped idols. He was a cousin of Umar Ibn Al-Khattab and married his sister Fatimah Bint Al-Khattab. Sa'eed and Fatimah were the 27th and 28th people to accept Islam.

He fought under the leadership of Khalid Ibn Waleed during the Wars of Apostasy. When Umar was nearing death, Sa'eed Ibn Zaid was not included in the list of potential successors due to his relationship with Umar—Umar did not want to turn the Caliphate into a dynasty.

📅 Sa'eed Ibn Zaid died around 80 years of age.
٥

Abu Ubaidah Ibn Al-Jarrah (رضي الله عنه)

🕌 9th person to accept Islam ⚔️ General of Muslim Armies 🛡️ Sacrificed his own teeth for the Prophet ﷺ

He was probably the ninth person to accept Islam, also at the hands of Abu Bakr. His mother was Muslim, but his father was not. Due to the persecution of Muslims in Mecca, he moved to Abyssinia. When the Prophet ﷺ ordered the Muslims to make the Hijrah to Medina, he did the same.

During the Battle of Uhud, the Prophet ﷺ was injured by the Quraish. Abu Ubaidah pulled fragments of metal from the Prophet's face with his teeth — and in doing so, he also pulled out two of his own teeth.

When Umar succeeded Abu Bakr as Caliph, he removed Khalid Ibn Waleed from the position of general of the Muslim armies, and appointed Abu Ubaidah Ibn Al-Jarrah in his stead.

📅 Abu Ubaidah died while campaigning in the Levant in what is now modern-day Jordan. He was 58 years of age.

"The best of people are those of my generation, then those who come after them, then those who come after them."

— Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Sahih al-Bukhari)

May Allah be pleased with all the noble Companions. رضي الله عنهم أجمعين
