A person once came to Isa (Alayhis salaam) & requested that he be allowed to stay in his company. Isa (Alayhis Salaam) agreed. One day, they went out on a journey. While travelling, they reached the bank of a river, where they sat down to have a meal, consisting of 3 pieces of bread. Each ate a piece & one was left over. Isa (Alayhis salaam) left his companion & went to the river to have a drink of water. When he returned, he found the bread missing.
He asked his companion, "Who took the bread?"
The companion replied, "I do not know." They continued on their journey.
A while later, they saw a gazelle with its 2 babies. Isa (Alayhis salaam) called one of the babies & it miraculously, came to him. He slaughtered it, cooked its meat & they both ate from it. Isa (Alayhis Salaam) then instructed the animal that they had just eaten, to rise with the permission of اللّه . It came back to life & went away.
Isa (Alayhis Salaam) now addressed his companion, "In the name of that Being Who has shown u this sign, please tell me who took the bread?"
Again the companion replied, "I do not know."
They continued their journey until they arrived at a river. Isa (Alayhis Salaam) took his companion's hand & walked over the surface of the water, miraculously. When they crossed the river, Isa (Alayhis Salaam) again asked, "In the name of that Being Who has shown u this sign, please tell me who took the bread?"
But the companion again replied, "I do not know."
They continued walking, until they arrived at an open piece of land, where they sat down. Isa (Alayhis Salaam) took some sand in his hand & instructed it, "Turn to gold, with the permission of اللّه !" Miraculously, it turned into pieces of gold.
He then split it into 3 portions, saying, "A third will be mine, a third urs, & the remaining third will go to the person who took the bread."
Quickly the companion replied, "I took the bread!"
Isa (Alayhis Salaam) gave all the gold to him & left. P2
As the man sat with the gold, 2 robbers attacked him & attempted to steal the gold from him. He convinced them not to kill him, & they finally agreed to split the gold 3 ways. As they were all hungry, the companion suggested that one of them should enter the city & buy some food. One of the robbers agreed to do so.
On his way to the city, a thought struck him, "Why should I give any gold to the other two? I will add some poison to the food & kill both of them. All the gold then will be mine."
Meanwhile, the other two were also conspiring, "Why should we give our shares to him? When he returns, we will kill him & split the gold between us."
When the man returned, they killed him. The two men then ate the food that had been mixed with poison & died.
Isa (Alayhis Salaam) happened to pass by, and saw the gold & the three men lying dead around it. He said to his companions, "Be careful of the world! This is what it does to people!"
Lesson: Love for wealth can drive a man to lie, steal, murder & flout the warning signs of Allah Ta'ala
May Allah protect us all from this disease.
