What Does the Qur'an Say About Allah?

Please remove or suspend any pre-conceptions you may have about God. As you read these Verses, keep this question in your mind: "Who is God?"
The Human Mind cannot imagine God. The closest we can come to know Him is through His many Beautiful and awe-inspiring Attributes — and the word "Allah" incorporates all of them.
① The Oneness and Glory of Allah
"Praise be to Allah, Lord (Cherisher & Sustainer) of the Worlds;"
"Most Gracious, Most Merciful;"
"Master of the Day of Judgement."
— Surah Al-Fatiha 1:2-4
"Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begets not, nor is He begotten; And there is none, like unto Him." — Surah Al-Ikhlas 112:1-4
"Allah! There is no god, but He, the Living, the Self-Subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him, nor sleep. His are all things in the Heavens and on Earth… His Throne does extend over the Heavens and the Earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. For He is the Most High, the Supreme in Glory." — Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255 (Ayat al-Kursi)
"He is the First, and the Last, the Evident and the Immanent: and He has full Knowledge of all things." — Surah Al-Hadid 57:3
"Allah is He, than Whom there is no other god — the Sovereign, the Holy One, the Source of Peace, the Guardian of Faith, the Preserver of Safety, the Exalted in Might, the Irresistible, the Supreme: Glory to Allah! High is He above the partners they attribute to Him." — Surah Al-Hashr 59:23
"He is Allah, the Creator, the Evolver, the Bestower of Forms. To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names: Whatever is in the Heavens and on Earth does declare His Praises and Glory." — Surah Al-Hashr 59:24
② Allah the Creator
"Verily, when He intends a thing, His command is 'Be,' and it is!" — Surah Ya-Sin 36:82
"Praise be to Allah, Who Created the Heavens and the Earth, and made the Darkness, and the Light." — Surah Al-An'am 6:1
"It is Allah Who raised the Heavens without any pillars that you can see; He has subjected the Sun and the Moon, each one runs its course for a Term Appointed. He does regulate all affairs." — Surah Ar-Ra'd 13:2
"It is Allah Who sustains the Heavens and the Earth, lest they cease to function: and if they should fail, there is none — not one — can sustain them thereafter." — Surah Fatir 35:41
"He, to Whom belongs the Dominion of the Heavens and the Earth: no son has He begotten, nor has He a partner in His dominion: it is He Who Created all things, and ordered them in due Proportions." — Surah Al-Furqan 25:2
③ The Signs of Allah in Creation

"It is He Who sends down Rain from the Sky: with it, We produce Vegetation of all kinds."

"It is He Who Created the Night and the Day, and the Sun and the Moon: all the Celestial bodies swim along, each in its rounded course."

"Do they not look at the Birds, held poised in the midst of the sky? Nothing holds them up but the Power of Allah. Verily, in this are Signs for those who believe."

"Among His Signs, He shows you the Lightning by way both of Fear, and of Hope, and He sends down Rain from the Sky, and with it gives Life to the Earth after it is Dead."

④ Allah's All-Encompassing Knowledge
"With Him are the Keys of the Unseen, the Treasures that none knows but He. He knows whatever there is on the Earth and in the Sea. Not a leaf does fall but with His Knowledge: there is not a grain in the Darkness of the Earth, nor anything fresh or dry, but is inscribed in a Record Clear." — Surah Al-An'am 6:59
"It was We Who Created man, and We know what dark suggestions his Soul makes to him: for We are nearer to him than his jugular vein." — Surah Qaf 50:16
"Nor is hidden from your Lord so much as the weight of an Atom on the Earth or in Heaven. And not the least, and not the greatest of these things, but are recorded in a Clear Record." — Surah Yunus 10:61
"No vision can grasp Him, but His grasp is over all vision: He is above all comprehension, yet is acquainted with all things." — Surah Al-An'am 6:103
⑤ Allah's Mercy, Love and Closeness
"When My servants ask you concerning Me, I am indeed close to them; I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calls on Me; let them also, with a will, listen to My Call, and Believe in Me; that they may walk in the Right Way."

"Then do you remember Me; I will remember you. Be grateful to Me, and reject not faith." — Surah Al-Baqarah 2:152
"Allah Loves those who are kind." "Allah Loves those who do good." — Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:13 & 5:96
"Allah is never unjust in the least degree: if there is any good done, He doubles it, and gives from His Own Presence a great Reward." — Surah An-Nisa 4:40
"He forgives anything else to whom He pleases… and Allah forgives not that partners should be set up with Him." — Surah An-Nisa 4:48
"Or who listens to the Soul distressed when it calls on Him, and who relieves its suffering?" — Surah An-Naml 27:62
⑥ Allah and Mankind
"He fashioned him in Due Proportion, and Breathed into him something of His Spirit. And He gave you the faculties of Hearing, and Sight, and Feeling and Understanding: little thanks do you give!" — Surah As-Sajdah 32:9
"He brought you forth from the Wombs of your mothers when you knew nothing; and He Gave you Hearing and Sight, and Intelligence and Affections: that you may give thanks." — Surah An-Nahl 16:78
"And He gives you of all that you ask for. But if you count the Favours of Allah, never will you be able to number them." — Surah Ibrahim 14:34
"Allah Commands Justice, the doing of Good, and Liberality to kith and kin, and He Forbids all shameful deeds and Injustice and Rebellion: He instructs you, that you may receive admonition." — Surah An-Nahl 16:90
"Your Lord has Decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of Honour." — Surah Al-Isra 17:23
⑦ Allah — The Light of the Heavens and the Earth
"Allah is the Light of the Heavens and the Earth. The parable of His Light is as if there were a Niche, and within it a Lamp: the Lamp enclosed in Glass: the Glass as it were a Brilliant Star: lit from a Blessed Tree, an Olive, neither of the East nor of the West, whose Oil is well-nigh Luminous, though Fire scarce touched it: Light upon Light! Allah does Guide whom He will to His Light."

⑧ Questions Allah Asks Us to Reflect Upon
"Who listens to the Soul distressed when it calls on Him, and who relieves its suffering? Can there be another god besides Allah?"

"Who guides you through the Depths of Darkness on Land and Sea, and who sends the Winds as heralds of Glad Tidings? Can there be another god besides Allah?"
— 27:63
"Who originates Creation, then Repeats it, and who gives you Sustenance from Heaven and Earth? Bring forth your argument, if you are telling the truth!"

"He is the Living One: There is no god, but He: Call upon Him, giving Him sincere devotion. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds!"
