Prophet Ishaq (Isaac) ุนู„ูŠู‡ ุงู„ุณู„ุงู…

Son of Ibrahim (AS) โ€” Father of Yaqub (AS) โ€” A Prophecy Fulfilled in Old Age

"And We gave him the glad tidings of Isaac, a Prophet from the righteous."

โ€” Surah As-Saffat 37:112

๐ŸŒฟ The Miracle of His Birth

The announcement of Ishaq's (AS) birth came through a remarkable visit. Three angels arrived at Ibrahim's (AS) home in the form of men. Ibrahim (AS), ever the generous host, slaughtered a fattened calf and invited them to eat. When he noticed none of them reached for the food, he became uneasy. They reassured him: "Do not fear โ€” we are Allah's angels."

One of the angels turned to Sarah, Ibrahim's wife, who was standing nearby, and gave her the glad tidings โ€” she would bear a son named Ishaq. Sarah was astonished: "Woe unto me! Shall I bear a child while I am an old woman, and here is my husband an old man? Verily, this is a strange thing!"

The angels replied: "Do you wonder at the Decree of Allah? The Mercy of Allah and His Blessings be on you, O the family of Ibrahim. Surely, He is All-Praiseworthy, All-Glorious." (Surah Hud 11:73) โ€” and the promise was fulfilled. Sarah gave birth to Ishaq (AS), and after him came Yaqub (AS).

๐Ÿ’›

Praised by Allah: Allah honoured Ishaq (AS) directly in the Quran alongside Ibrahim and Yaqub: "And remember Our servants Ibrahim, Ishaq and Yaqub โ€” owners of strength and religious understanding. Verily We did choose them by granting them remembrance of the Home in the Hereafter. And they are in Our sight, verily of the chosen and the best." (Surah Sad 38:45-47)

๐Ÿ“– His Marriage and His Sons

As Ibrahim (AS) felt his life drawing to a close, he wished to see Ishaq married โ€” but not to one of the Canaanite pagans around them. He sent a trusted servant to Haran in Iraq to choose a bride from among his own people. The servant chose Rebekah, daughter of Bethuel, who was a nephew of Ibrahim (AS). Ishaq married her, and she gave birth to twin boys โ€” Esau (Al-Eis) and Yaqub (Jacob).

Allah chose Yaqub (AS) for prophethood, which created tension with his twin Esau. This ill-feeling became so serious that Esau threatened to kill his brother โ€” and Yaqub was forced to flee his home. The chain of prophecy continued, however, unbroken โ€” from Ibrahim to Ishaq to Yaqub, and then to Yusuf (AS) and his brothers, the twelve sons who became the twelve tribes of the Children of Israel.

Ishaq (AS) lived to the age of one hundred and eighty years. He was buried by his sons Esau and Yaqub alongside his father Ibrahim (AS) in the cave he had purchased in Canaan. His life stands as a testament to the power of sincere prayer โ€” born to elderly parents through a miracle, chosen as a prophet, and the father of one of the most honoured prophetic lines in history.

May Allah be pleased with Prophet Ishaq (AS)โ€”a miracle child, a devoted prophet, and a blessed link in the chain of guidance that reached its completion with Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ.
