Early Life
Abu Hurairah (RA) grew up in Yemen and lived a simple, humble life. Before Islam, he was not wealthy or widely known — but he possessed a deep love for truth and a natural hunger for knowledge that would define his entire life.
Acceptance of Islam
Abu Hurairah (RA) travelled to Madinah and embraced Islam during the later years of the Prophet's ﷺ life — around the time of the Battle of Khaybar. Although he came to Islam relatively late compared to some companions, the quality and intensity of his devotion more than made up for the time. From the moment he accepted Islam, he gave himself completely to learning.

Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated over 5,374 Hadith — more than any other companion. He once asked the Prophet ﷺ to pray that Allah bless him with a strong memory, and the Prophet ﷺ spread his cloak and made du'a. Abu Hurairah (RA) said he never forgot a single thing after that. His name literally means "Father of the Kitten" — a nickname given to him because he was often seen carrying a small cat.
Life with the Prophet ﷺ
Abu Hurairah (RA) dedicated himself completely to staying close to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. While many companions were occupied with trade, business, or family responsibilities, Abu Hurairah (RA) chose a different path — he stayed in the Prophet's mosque, learning and memorising every teaching, every action, and every word he witnessed. Dedication to Knowledge
Abu Hurairah (RA) divided his nights into three parts: one third for sleep, one third for prayer, and one third for learning. His poverty — which sometimes left him faint with hunger — never deterred him. He once collapsed in the mosque from hunger, and people passing by thought he had fallen ill, not realising his condition. Yet through all of this, he never stopped seeking knowledge.
