The Qur'an in Ramadan

Making the Qur'an the heart of your Ramadan

Ramadan and the Qur'an are closely connected. It is the month in which the Qur'an was revealed, making it a special opportunity to read, listen to, understand and reflect upon the words of Allah.

🌙 Ramadan — The Month of the Qur'an

Allah سبحانه وتعالى says:

شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ
```
“The month of Ramadan is that in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.”
Qur'an 2:185
```

This verse reminds us that Ramadan is not simply a month of fasting. It is a month of guidance, and the Qur'an is at the centre of that guidance.

❤️ Why Give the Qur'an More Time?

Throughout the year, our lives can become busy with work, family responsibilities and everyday concerns. Ramadan gives us an opportunity to slow down and make the Qur'an a greater part of our daily lives.

📖 Read

Set aside a regular time each day to read the Qur'an.

🎧 Listen

Listen to Qur'an recitation while travelling or during quiet periods.

💭 Reflect

Think about the meanings and lessons contained in what you read.

❤️ Apply

Allow the Qur'an to influence your character and daily actions.

📅 Create a Realistic Qur'an Routine

You do not need to begin with an unrealistic target. Choose an amount that you can maintain consistently and gradually increase if you are able.

```
🌅 After Fajr: Read a portion of the Qur'an while your mind is fresh.
☀️ During the day: Read or listen to Qur'an when you have a quiet moment.
🌇 Before or after Maghrib: Spend some time reading and reflecting.
🌙 At night: Listen carefully to the Qur'an during Taraweeh and continue your personal reading if possible.
```

📚 How Much Should You Read?

There is no need to compare your Qur'an journey with somebody else's. Some people may complete the Qur'an several times, while others may read a smaller amount while concentrating carefully on understanding and reflection.

Choose a realistic target based on your circumstances. The important thing is to approach the Qur'an sincerely and consistently.

A simple starting point

  • Start with a manageable daily amount.
  • Choose a regular time.
  • Keep your Qur'an easily accessible.
  • Read with attention rather than rushing.
  • Increase your amount when you are comfortable.

💡 Read With Understanding

Reading the Arabic Qur'an is an important act of worship, but we should also make an effort to understand the message. Reading a reliable translation and studying a trustworthy explanation can help us appreciate the guidance contained in the Qur'an.

When you come across a verse that speaks to your situation, pause and think about what Allah is teaching you. Ask yourself how you can put that guidance into practice.

🎧 Listen During Taraweeh

Ramadan nights provide another opportunity to connect with the Qur'an. During Taraweeh, listen attentively to the recitation and try to remain present rather than allowing the mind to wander.

Even when you do not understand every Arabic word, listening to the recitation can become a beautiful part of your Ramadan routine. Learning the meanings of the verses can deepen that experience.

👨‍👩‍👧 Share the Qur'an With Your Family

Ramadan can also become a time when families reconnect with the Qur'an together.

Read Together

Set aside a short family Qur'an time.

Discuss

Talk about lessons from the verses you read.

Encourage Children

Help children develop a positive relationship with the Qur'an.

```
Ramadan is not only about completing pages. It is about allowing the words of Allah to reach our hearts and influence the way we live.
Read. Listen. Understand. Reflect. Act.
```

May Allah make the Qur'an the light of our hearts, the guidance of our lives and a source of mercy for us in this world and the Hereafter. Ameen.
