Laylat al-Qadr
The Night of Decree — A Night Better Than a Thousand Months
```🌙 What Is Laylat al-Qadr?
Laylat al-Qadr is one of the greatest and most blessed nights of Ramadan. Allah describes this night in the Qur’an as a night better than a thousand months.
It is a night to turn sincerely to Allah through prayer, Qur’an, duʿa, remembrance and repentance. It is not necessary to make worship complicated. What matters is sincerity and making the most of the opportunity according to your ability.
📖 Allah Says in the Qur’an
إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ
“Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Decree.”
— Qur’an 97:1
⭐ Better Than a Thousand Months
Allah tells us:
لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ
“The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.”
— Qur’an 97:3
A thousand months is more than 83 years. This shows us the tremendous value of this single night and why a believer should make every effort to seek it.
```🌌 When Should We Look for Laylat al-Qadr?

🤲 The Special Duʿa for Laylat al-Qadr

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Allahumma innaka ʿafuwwun tuḥibbul-ʿafwa faʿfu ʿannī.
“O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me.”
```🌙 A Beginner-Friendly Worship Plan
If you are new to the last ten nights of Ramadan, don't worry about trying to do everything at once. Start simply. The goal is to worship Allah sincerely and consistently according to your ability.
🌅 1. Before Maghrib — Make Your Intention
Take a few quiet moments to remind yourself why you are worshipping Allah. Ask Him to help you make the night beneficial and accepted.
Simple goal: “Tonight I want to get closer to Allah, seek His forgiveness and make sincere duʿa.”
```🌙 2. After Maghrib — Make Duʿa
Spend a few minutes making sincere duʿa. Ask Allah to forgive you, guide you, bless your family and accept your Ramadan.
You can make duʿa in your own words. Speak to Allah sincerely and ask Him for what is good in this life and the Hereafter.
```📖 3. Read Some Qur’an
You do not need to read a huge amount. Choose an amount that you can read with attention and understanding.
Beginner goal: Read a few pages slowly, reflect on what you are reading, and ask Allah to help you live by His guidance.
```🕌 4. Pray ʿIsha and Taraweeh
Pray ʿIsha and, if you are able, join the Taraweeh prayer at the masjid or pray at home.
Focus on sincerity rather than counting how much you have done. Listen to the Qur’an and make an effort to remain present in your prayer.
```🤲 5. Repeat the Laylat al-Qadr Duʿa
Make the duʿa taught by the Prophet ﷺ:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Allahumma innaka ʿafuwwun tuḥibbul-ʿafwa faʿfu ʿannī.
“O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me.”
Repeat it often during the last ten nights.
```📿 6. Spend a Little Time in Dhikr
Sit quietly for a few minutes and remember Allah. Make istighfar and simple dhikr that you know.
Beginner goal: Even 5–10 focused minutes can be a meaningful part of your night.
```🌌 7. Before Fajr — Make One Final Effort
If you are awake before Fajr, use some of that quiet time for prayer, Qur’an and duʿa.
Ask Allah sincerely for forgiveness and make your most important personal duʿas before the night ends.
```🌙 Worship Priority Order
If you are new to the last ten nights of Ramadan, you may wonder what to do first. Keep it simple: begin with what Allah has made obligatory, then add voluntary acts according to your ability.
1️⃣ Protect the Obligatory Prayers
Your five daily prayers come first. Make sure you pray them on time and give them your attention.
Priority: Do not allow voluntary worship to cause you to miss or neglect an obligatory prayer.
```2️⃣ Pray Taraweeh and Qiyam
After protecting your obligatory prayers, pray Taraweeh and, if you wish, additional night prayer according to your ability. You may pray at the masjid or at home.
Focus on sincerity, humility and listening to the Qur’an rather than worrying about how much you have completed.
```3️⃣ Make Duʿa and Seek Forgiveness
Spend time asking Allah for forgiveness, mercy, guidance and goodness in this life and the Hereafter.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Allahumma innaka ʿafuwwun tuḥibbul-ʿafwa faʿfu ʿannī.
“O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me.”
4️⃣ Read and Reflect on the Qur’an
Read whatever amount you can manage with attention. Even a few pages read thoughtfully can be valuable.
If you cannot read Arabic fluently, listen to the Qur’an and learn its meaning through a reliable translation or explanation.
```5️⃣ Add Dhikr and Extra Prayer
Once the essentials are covered, use your remaining time for dhikr, istighfar and additional voluntary prayer according to your ability.
You do not have to stay awake all night. Choose worship you can perform sincerely without exhausting yourself or risking the obligatory prayers, especially Fajr.
```⭐ The Simple Order to Remember
Obligatory prayers → Voluntary night prayer → Duʿa & forgiveness → Qur’an → Dhikr & other voluntary worship
```⭐ If You Can Only Do Five Things
- Pray ʿIsha and Taraweeh/Qiyam according to your ability.
