The Ansar's Beautiful Hearts

When the Prophet ﷺ and the Muhajirun arrived in Madinah, they had left everything behind in Makkah. They had no homes, no farms, and very little food. The people of Madinah — the Ansar — welcomed them with open arms.

One Ansari man went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have two date palm orchards. Please take one for the Muhajirun." Another brought his best sheep and said, "This is for our brothers."

Allah described them in the Qur'an: "They give them preference over themselves, even though they are in poverty. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul — it is those who will be the successful." (Surah Al-Hashr, 59:9)

A young girl once asked her mother, "But Mama, what if I only have one sweet?" Her mother smiled and replied, "Then break it in half, my love. Because when you share with Allah's pleasure in your heart, He fills what remains with more barakah than the whole sweet ever had."

Try This at Home

This week's family challenge: Create a "Sharing Box." Each family member places one item they love into the box — a toy, a book, a snack. At the end of the week, gather together and each person chooses something from the box that belongs to someone else. Talk about how it felt to give and to receive.

Tip for parents: Never force sharing. Instead, model it. When you share your food, your time, or your attention, your child absorbs the lesson naturally. Say aloud: "I'm sharing my dates with Baba because Allah loves those who give."
