Zaynab bint Khuzayma رضي الله عنها

Mother of the Believers — Known as the Mother of the Poor

"There will be many who will testify to her generosity on the Last Day."

— Narrated about Zaynab bint Khuzayma (RA)

🌿 The Mother of the Poor

Zaynab bint Khuzayma (RA) was known even before Islam as a woman of extraordinary generosity — so generous to orphans and the poor that she earned the title Umm al-Masakeen — the Mother of the Poor. Her compassion and open-handedness were known throughout the community.

After her husband was martyred at the Battle of Badr, she was left a widow. She offered herself in marriage to the Prophet ﷺ, who accepted her proposal and married her in Ramadan, 4 AH. She was thirty years old; the Prophet ﷺ was fifty-six.

Sadly, Zaynab (RA) passed away only eight months after her marriage to the Prophet ﷺ — the only one of his wives besides Khadijah to die during his lifetime. Though not a great deal is recorded about her short time in his household, her generosity and her love for the poor are remembered. Allah knows what she gave, and those who received her kindness will testify for her on the Day of Judgement.

May Allah be pleased with Zaynab bint Khuzayma — the Mother of the Poor — whose short life was filled with generosity and whose place among the Mothers of the Believers is an eternal honour.
