Authentic Du'as from the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ

"Those who believe and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allahโ€”verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest." โ€” Surah ar-Ra'd (13:28)

  • Morning Adhkaar are to be read after the break of dawn until sunrise
  • Evening Adhkaar are to be read after 'Asr until Maghrib
  • Whatever we recite of these adhkaar, we must firmly believe and be striving to attainโ€”lest we be merely saying words without conviction
  • Where a du'a has both a morning and evening version, the morning wording is given first and the evening wording in brackets

1. Seeking Refuge from Evil

ุฃูŽุนููˆุฐู ุจููƒูŽู„ูู…ูŽุงุชู ุงู„ู„ู‡ู ุงู„ุชูŽู‘ุงู…ูŽู‘ุงุชู ู…ูู†ู’ ุดูŽุฑูู‘ ู…ูŽุง ุฎูŽู„ูŽู‚ูŽ

"A'oodhu bikalimaatil-laahit-taammaati min sharri maa khalaq."

"I seek refuge in Allah's perfect words from the evil of His creation."

The Prophet ๏ทบ said, "The one who says this when evening entersโ€”three timesโ€”then not even poison would harm him that night." โ€” Three times in the evening

2. Protection from All Harm

"Bismillaahil-ladhi laa yadurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil ardi wa laa fis samaa'i wa huwas samee'ul-'aleem."

"In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth nor in the heavens harms, and He is all-hearing, all-knowing."

The Prophet ๏ทบ said, "The servant who says this in the morning of every day and in the evening of every dayโ€”three timesโ€”nothing will cause him any harm." โ€” Three times morning and evening

3. Sufficiency of Allah

"HasbyaAllaahu laa ilaaha illaa huw 'alayhi tawakkaltu wa huwa rabbul 'arshil-'adheem."

"Allah is sufficient for me; none has the right to be worshipped except Him. Upon Him I rely, and He is the Lord of the exalted Throne."

"Allaahumma bika asbahnaa / amsaynaa, wa bika amsaynaa / asbahnaa, wa bika nahyaa, wa bika namootu, wa ilaykan-nushoor / wa ilaykal-maseer."

"O Allah, by Your leave we have reached the morning/evening, and by Your leave we have reached the evening/morning; by Your leave we live and die, and unto You is our resurrection/our return."

The Prophet ๏ทบ said, "When anyone of you gets up in the morning, let him say this... and in the evening let him say it." โ€” Once morning and evening

5. Upon the Fitrah of Islam

"Asbahnaa / Amsaynaa 'alaa fitratil-Islaam, wa 'alaa kalimatil-ikhlaas, wa 'alaa deeni nabiyyinaa Muhammadin sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, wa 'alaa millati abeenaa Ibraaheema haneefam-muslimaa, wa maa kaana minal-mushrikeen."

"We have reached the morning/evening upon the fitrah of Islam and the word of sincerity and the religion of our Nabi Muhammad ๏ทบ and the orientation of our forefather Ibraaheem (AS), who was a Haneef Muslim and of a true faith and was not of those who associate others with Allah."

Ubayy ibn Ka'b (RA) said: "Rasoolullah ๏ทบ taught us to say this when we rise in the morning and when we reach the evening." โ€” Once morning and evening

6. Thanks for the Day's Blessings

"Allaahumma maa asbaha / amsaa bee min-ni'mah, aw bi ahadim-min khalqik, faminka wahdaka laa shareeka lak, falakal-hamdu walakash-shukr."

"O Allah, whatever grace has been my share this morning/evening, or the share of any of Your creation, is from You alone, without partner, so for You is all praise and unto You all thanks."

The Prophet ๏ทบ said, "Whoever says this has indeed offered his day's thanks, and if one says the same when evening arrives, he has indeed offered his night's thanks." โ€” Once morning and evening

7. Bearing Witness to Allah's Oneness

"Allaahumma innee asbahtua / amsaytu ush-hiduk, wa ush-hiduha malata 'arshik, wa malaa'ikatika wa jamee'a khalqik, annaka antallaahu laa ilaaha illaa ant, wahdaka laa shareeka lak, wa anna muhammadan sallalaahu 'alayhi wa sallama 'abduka wa rasooluk."

"O Allah, verily I have reached the morning/evening and call on You, the bearers of Your Throne, Your angels, and all of Your creation to bear witness that You are Allah, none has the right to be worshipped except You alone, without partner, and that Muhammad ๏ทบ is Your servant and messenger."

The Prophet ๏ทบ said, "If anyone says this four times in the morning or evening, Allah will free him completely from the Fire." โ€” Four times morning and evening

8. Contentment with Allah, Islam and the Prophet ๏ทบ

"Radeetu Billaahi rabbaa, wa bil-Islaami deenaa, wa bi Muhammadin sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallama nabiyyaw-wa rasoolaa."

"I am pleased with Allah as Lord and Islam as a way of life and Muhammad ๏ทบ as a Nabi and a Rasool."

The Prophet ๏ทบ said, "The one who says this when he wakes up in the morning and when evening arrivesโ€”it will become a right upon Allah to please him." โ€” Three times morning and evening

9. Sayyidul Istighfaar โ€” The Master of Seeking Forgiveness

"Allaahumma anta rabbee laa ilaaha illaa ant, khalaqtanee wa ana 'abduk, wa ana 'alaa 'ahdika wa wa'dika mastat't, a'oodhu bika min sharri ma sana't, aboo'u laka bini'matika 'alayya wa aboo'u bi dhambee, faghfir lee, fa'innahu laa yaghfirudh-dhunooba illaa ant."

"O Allah, You are my Lord; none has the right to be worshipped except You. You created me, and I am Your servant, and I abide by Your covenant and promise as best I can. I take refuge in You from the evil which I have committed. I acknowledge Your favor upon me, and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for verily none can forgive sins except You."

The Prophet ๏ทบ said, "This is the best of Istighfaar. Whosoever says it during the day with conviction and dies before night falls will be of the people of Paradise. And whosoever says it at night with conviction and dies before daybreak will be of the people of Paradise." โ€” Once morning and evening

10. Salawaat upon the Prophet ๏ทบ

"Allaahumma salli'alaa sayyidinaa Muhammad, wa 'alaa aali sayyidinaa Muhammad, kamaa sallayta 'alaa sayyidinaa Ibraaheem, wa 'alaa aali sayyidinaa Ibraaheem, innaka Hameedum Majeed. Allaahumma baarik 'alaa sayyidinaa Muhammad, wa 'alaa aali sayyidinaa Muhammad, kamaa baarakta 'alaa sayyidinaa Ibraaheem, wa 'alaa aali sayyidinaa Ibraaheem, fil 'aalameen, innaka Hameedum-Majeed."

"O Allah, confer salutation upon our master Muhammad and upon the followers of our master Muhammad, just as You conferred salutation on our master Ibraaheem and on the followers of our master Ibraaheem. Verily, You are full of praise and majesty. O Allah, confer blessings on our master Muhammad and upon the followers of our master Muhammad, just as You conferred blessings on our master Ibraaheem and on the followers of our master Ibraaheem, in the worlds. Verily, You are full of praise and majesty."

The Prophet ๏ทบ said, "Whosoever invokes blessings upon me ten times when he wakes up in the morning and ten times when he reaches the evening, my intercession will reach him on the Day of Judgement." โ€” Ten times morning and evening

11. Subhanallah wa Bihamdihi

ุณูุจู’ุญูŽุงู†ูŽ ุงู„ู„ู‡ู ูˆูŽุจูุญูŽู…ู’ุฏูู‡ู

"Subhaanallaahi wa bihamdih."

"How perfect Allah is, and I praise Him."

The Prophet ๏ทบ said, "Whoever says this one hundred times during the day, his sins are wiped away even if they are like the foam of the sea. And on the Day of Resurrection, none will come with anything better except someone who has said as he has said or more." โ€” 100 times in the morning and evening

12. Glorification by the Number of His Creation

"Subhaanallaahi wa bihamdih, 'adada khalqih, wa ridaa nafsih, wa zinata 'arshih, wa midaada kalimaatih."

"How perfect and exalted Allah is, and I praise Him by the number of His creation, and the pleasure of His self, and by the weight of His throne, and the ink to record His words and signs."

Juwairiyah (RA), Mother of the Believers, narrated that the Prophet ๏ทบ told her these four words, recited three times, would outweigh all the dhikr she had recited since morning. โ€” Three times morning and evening

13. Comprehensive Morning and Evening Du'a

"Asbahnaa wa asbahal / Amsaynaa wa amsal-mulku lillaah, walhamdu lillaah, laa ilaaha illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahul-mulku walahul-hamdu wa huwa 'alaa kulli shay'in qadeer. Rabbi as-aluka khayra maa fee haadhan-nahaari / haadhihil-laylati wa khayra maa ba'dahu / ba'dahaa. Wa a'oodhu bika min sharri maa fee haadhan-nahaari / haadhihil-laylati, wa sharri maa ba'dahu / ba'dahaa. Rabbi a'oodhu bika minal-kasali wasou'il-kibar, Rabbi a'oodhu bika min 'adhaabinfin-naari wa min 'adhaabinfil-qabr."

"We have reached the morning/evening, and at this very time, unto Allah belongs all sovereignty, and all praise is for Allah. None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without a partner. My Lord, I ask You for all the good of this day / night and the good of what follows it, and I take refuge in You from the evils of this day / night and the evils of what follows it. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from laziness and from the evil of old age. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from torment in the Fire and punishment in the grave."

The Prophet ๏ทบ used to say this when he entered upon the evening and when he entered upon the morning. โ€” Once morning and evening

14. Seeking Pardon and Well-Being

"Allaahumma innee as'alukal-'afwa wal-'aafiyata fid-dunyaa wal-aakhirah, Allaahumma innee as-alukal-'afwa wal-'aafiyata fee deenee wa dunyaaya wa ahlee wa maalee. Allaahumas-tur 'awraatee, wa aamin raw'aatee. Allaahumm ah-fadh-nee mim-bayni yadayya wa min khalfee, wa 'an yameenee wa 'an shimaalee, wa min fawqee, wa a'oodhu bi'adhamatika an ugtaala min tahtee."

"O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in this life and the next. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religious and worldly affairs and my family and my wealth. O Allah, do not expose my defects and deficiencies and change my fears into peace and security. O Allah, protect me from in front of me and from behind me, from my right side and from my left side, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your greatness that I be swallowed from beneath me."

The Prophet ๏ทบ never failed to say these prayers when entering upon the evening or entering upon the morning. โ€” Once morning and evening

15. Protection from Affliction

"Allaahumma anta rabbee laa ilaaha illaa ant, 'alayka tawakkaltu, wa anta rabbul-'arshil-'adheem, maa shaa'allaahu kaan, wa maa lam yashaa' lam yakun. Laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa billaahil-'aliyyil-adheem. A'alamu annAllaaha 'alaa kulli shay-in qadeer, wa annAllaaha qad ahaata bikulli shay-in 'ilmaa, wa ahsaa kulla shay-in 'adadaa. Allaahumma innee a'oodhu bika min sharri nafsee, wa min sharri kulli daabbatin anta aakhidhun binaasiyatihaa, inna rabbee 'alaa siraatim mustaqeem."

"O Allah, You are my Lord; there is no god but You. I completely rely on You, and You are the Lord of the mighty Throne. What Allah wills will be, and what He does not will will not be. I know that Allah has power over all things and that Allah's knowledge has encompassed everything and that Allah has a count of everything. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own nafs and from the evil of every creature subject to Your power. Verily, my Lord is on a path that is straight."

The Prophet ๏ทบ said, "Whoever says this at the beginning of the day, no affliction will reach him until the evening. And whoever says it at the end of the day, no affliction will reach him until the morning." โ€” Once morning and evening

16. Health of Body, Hearing and Sight

"Allaahumma 'aafinee fee badanee, Allaahumma 'aafinee fee sam'ee, Allaahumma 'aafinee fee basaree, laa ilaaha illaa ant."
"Allaahumma innee a'oodhu bika minal-kufri wal-faqr, wa a'oodhu bika min 'adhaabil-qabr, laa ilaaha illaa ant."

"O Allah, grant me safety and health in my body. O Allah, grant me safety and health in my hearing. O Allah, grant me safety and health in my sightโ€”there is no God besides You. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief and poverty, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the graveโ€”there is no God but You."

17. Protection from Harmful Knowledge and Hardened Heart

"Allaahumma innee a'oodhu bika minal-arba', min 'ilmin laa yanfa', wa min qalbin laa yakhsha', wa min nafsin laa tashba', wa min du'aa-in laa yusma'."

"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from four things: knowledge which is not beneficial, a heart which is not humble, a self which does not find fulfillment, and a du'a which is not heard."

18. For Fear, Obedience and Certainty

"Allaahumma aqsim lee min khashyatika maa tahoolu bihi baynee wa bayna ma'siyatak, wa min taa'atika maa tubalighunee bihi jannatak, wa minal-yaqeeni maa tuhawinu bihi 'alayya masaa'ibad-dunyaa."

"O Allah, bestow upon me a share of fear, which will prevent me from disobeying You, and a share of obedience with which You will take me to Your Jannah, and a share of certainty with which You lighten the effects of the hardships and tribulations of this world on my heart."

19. For Strength, Honor, and Provision

"Allaahumma innee dha'eefun fa-qawwinee fee ridaaka da'fee, wa khudh ilal-khayri binaasiyatee, waj'alil-islaama muntahaa ridaayy. Allaahumma innee da'eefun fa-qawwinee, Allaahumma innee dhaleelun fa-a'izzanee, Allaahumma innee fa-qeerun farzuqnee."

"O Allah, I am weakโ€”please strengthen my weakness in the pursuit of Your pleasure, and compel me by my forelock into doing good, and make full submission to You my ultimate satisfaction. O Allah, I am weakโ€”strengthen me. O Allah, I am abased by my sinsโ€”dignify me by Your obedience. O Allah, I am destituteโ€”enrich me."

20. For Allah's Love

"Allaahumma innee as-aluka hubbaka wa hubba man yanfa'unee hubbuhu 'indak. Allaahumma maa razaqtanee mimmaa uhibb, faj'alhu lee quwwatan fee maa tuhibb. Allaahumma maa zawayta 'annee mimmaa uhibb, faj'alhu lee faraaghan fee maa tuhibb."

"O Allah, I implore You for Your love and the love of the one whose love benefits me with You. O Allah, whatever You have bestowed upon me of what I love, let it be strength for me in what You love. O Allah, whatever You withhold from me of what I love, let it be freedom for me in what You love."

21. Laa Ilaaha Illallaah โ€” The Greatest Dhikr

ู„ูŽุง ุฅูู„ูŽู‡ูŽ ุฅูู„ูŽู‘ุง ุงู„ู„ู‡ู ูˆูŽุญู’ุฏูŽู‡ู ู„ูŽุง ุดูŽุฑููŠูƒูŽ ู„ูŽู‡ู ู„ูŽู‡ู ุงู„ู’ู…ูู„ู’ูƒู ูˆูŽู„ูŽู‡ู ุงู„ู’ุญูŽู…ู’ุฏู ูˆูŽู‡ููˆูŽ ุนูŽู„ูŽู‰ ูƒูู„ูู‘ ุดูŽูŠู’ุกู ู‚ูŽุฏููŠุฑูŒ

"Laa ilaaha illallaahu, wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamd, wa huwa 'alaa kulli shay-in qadeer."

"None is worthy of worship except Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and praise, and He has power over all things."

The Prophet ๏ทบ said, "Whoever says this one hundred times during the day has the reward of freeing ten slaves, a hundred good deeds are recorded for him, a hundred bad deeds are wiped away, and he has gained refuge from the devil that day until evening. None shall come with anything better except someone who has done more." โ€” 100 times morning and evening

O Allah, make our tongues moist with Your remembrance, our hearts alive with Your love, and our mornings and evenings filled with the light of Your dhikr. Ameen.
